My Radio
UPDATE: Hurricane Helene took down my receiver and antenna array. I've since rebuilt and got the receiver back online. Quick photo of my antenna and receiver. Using a MLA-30 Magnetic Loop antenna, built with a piece of 1" CPVC, mounted via a sharkbite-cast flange mounted 8' on top of a pressure treated 4x4. (Need to keep the HOA happy) The receiver is a SDRPlay RSPdx, and the system it's running on is a 8th Gen Core i5, 16GB Ram and Ubuntu 22.04. It's mounted in a weathertight enclosure to the side of a pressure treated 4x4. I currently have a GMRS license, practicing for my technician class license, and this is my first step. I've picked up several SSTV images, FST4, FT8 and JS8 digital signals, as well as broadcast channels as far away as The Philippines, South Africa, Tajikistan, and everywhere else in between. This loop antenna has nothing but impressed me with its results! I have also installed a dual-band UHF/VHF antenna for the local police/fire frequencies and some of them are pretty active. I'm a huge fan of seeing as much waterfall as possible, so my bands stored won't change much, but I do want to keep 3 - 10MHz wide sections in the list for sure! Any suggestions to improve my setup are very welcome and I can be reached anytime at [email protected].
